Content marketing and blogging is a big part of SEO and is a great basis for your link building campaign but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all of your strategy. The process of regularly releasing interesting and unique content on to other websites is a great way to obtain links back to your own site but in order to spread your link profile, it is important to use a few more different tactics.
SEO is big business and now the industry has become a lot cleaner (due to Google’s algorithm updates) companies all over the world are starting to realise the benefits it has to their brand. With a large percentage of businesses now doing a lot of their work online, SEO can really have a positive impact but only if you create a great link building strategy. Here are a few ways, other than blogging, that you can build up your links.
There are thousands of blogs all over the internet that are posted on a daily basis and a great way to build links for your own site is to take advantage of this. Scroll through and find ones that are interesting and specific to the market and industry that you deal in and then check to see whether they ask for your website in the commenting section underneath. If so, then there is opportunity to gain a link back.
When commenting though, it important that you don’t try to spam the conversation but instead add something important and knowledgeable that moves the discussion forward. Also try to include your picture so that blog owners start to get used to seeing you commenting on blogs and you will begin to form relationships.
Outreach is a form of blogging but is focussed on aiming for high quality websites and building relationships with their owners so that the link is a lot more powerful. By targeting specific websites that are authorities in your industry e.g. the FA’s site is you were writing about football; it may take longer to get your link but it will be worth so much more to you.

One powerful link from websites such as these is worth much more than ten or even twenty less powerful links. Remember to always think about the quality of your writing and the quality of the site it is going on; that’s what makes it a good link.
Although it has recently been discovered that press releases don’t carry any more authority than other types of links, they can still have a big impact on your SEO. A press release is designed to create as much interest as possible about the subject detailed and so if it is distributed correctly it can be used as a powerful link building strategy.
A press release usually contains newsworthy content that is a hot topic at that moment in time and so it is therefore likely to be picked up by the big sites around the web. If this happens then you have earned yourself a powerful link.
There are lots of differing opinions in the SEO world regarding directories with some people ceasing to use them at all but I feel they still have a role to play in your company’s SEO. Although it might be true that they don’t carry as much weight as they used to, it is still important to get your website listed on the main directories in your field.
If nothing else, at least this creates a little more awareness and you know your companies details are going to be found by people looking for your services.
